Victor A. Claude Jr., 87, of Woolstock, died Friday, July 3, 2009 at Crestview Senior Living in Webster City. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center with Pastor Gerald Caquelin officiating. Burial will follow in the French Cemetery northeast of Woolstock, with graveside military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #553 of Woolstock. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Fosters.

Victor Alfred Claude Jr., son of Victor and Bertha Hisler Claude was born on March 26, 1922 in Woolstock, Iowa. He received his education in the Woolstock and Webster City Schools, graduating in 1939 from Webster City Lincoln High. On August 24, 1941 he married Carol Bernice Calkins in Princeton, Mo. The couple resided and farmed mile east of Woolstock. In 1943, Victor was inducted into the U. S. Marines 5th infantry Division where he fought courageously in Iwo Jima. Following his honorable discharge in 1946, he returned to Woolstock where he continued to farm. Victor had been residing at Crestview Senior Living since July 1, 2009.

Survivors include his wife of over 67 years Carol; children, Steven Claude of Denver, CO; Katherine DiCintio of Parker, Co; Carl (Carolyn) Day of Williams; grandchildren, Steven Claude Murray, Abby Claude, Pasquale DiCintio and Michelle DiCintio; three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Victor was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Pat DiCintio; brothers, Gerald and Edward Claude; sister, Mary Edvenson and sister in infancy, Elsie Claude.

He was a member of the Woolstock United Methodist Church and the American Legion Post #553 of Woolstock. He had also served on the Woolstock School Board, Woolstock Elevator Board and the French Club.
