July 31, 2005Alice Luella Norris, 86, of 1201 30th St. NE, died Friday, July 29, 2005, in St. Luke's Hospital following an ongoing illness. Services: 6 p.m. Monday, Cedar Memorial Funeral Home, with visitation beginning at 4 p.m. Additional services: 2 p.m. Tuesday, LuVerne United Methodist Church, LuVerne, with burial in the LuVerne Cemetery.
Alice was born Aug. 2, 1918, in LuVerne, to Chester and Matilda Hinz Stoddard, and grew up and attended school in LuVerne, graduating in 1937. She was united in marriage to John Lee Stampka on April 17, 1939, in Algona, and resided in the LuVerne area. Their children were Margo (Jim) Gray of LuVerne, Mario (Roger) West of Cedar Rapids and Jack Stampka of Goldfield. John Stampka died Aug. 4, 1973. Alice was united in marriage to Howard Henry Norris on Oct. 20, 1975, in Cedar Rapids. Her stepchildren were Rex (Joan) Norris of Mulberry, Fla., Max (June) Norris of Central City and Larry (Carol) Norris of Lawrence, Kan. Alice was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John; two sisters, Della Miller and Gertrude Hefti; a brother, Howard Stoddard; and a grandson, Jeff Stampka. Survivors include her loving husband, Howard; two daughters, Margo and Mario; a son, Jack; three stepsons, Rex, Max and Larry; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews and a multitude of dear friends. Alice was known for her fun loving nature and enjoyed Scrabble, bingo, cards, fishing, cooking, garage sales, gambling and vacations with Howard.
