Last Rites Are Held Here For A Pioneer Lady

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucinda Briggs, former Burt resident were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church the Rev. H. W. Jackman conducting the service. Burial was in the Burt Cemetery. Mrs. Briggs died Easter Sunday at the home of her daughter, Mrs. J. H. Keith, Thor. Mrs. Briggs, who had been in poor health for years, moved to Thor four years ago to be near her daughter. Lucinda Alger was born in DeKalb County, Illinois on September 14, 1854. While Iowa was still in its early pioneer days, the Alger family came to the county settling near Burt. Here she married James Marlow. To the union four children were born; two of them, Maude Marlow and Mrs. Sells of Ft. Dodge, preceded their mother in death. Those surviving are Will Marlow, Lemmon, S.D.; Mrs. May Paul, Alva, Okla and James Marlow, Redfield, S.D. After the death of her first husband she married to Frank Ames. To this union two children were born, Archie Ames, Kanawha and Mrs. Verna Keith of Thor. Her third marriage was to John Briggs who also preceded her in death. Out of town relatives attending the funeral included Mrs. May Paul. She had helped care for her mother the past 6 weeks. Mr. and Mrs. J. H Keith, their daughter and son-in-law, Thor; Mr. and Mrs. Archie Ames, Kanawha; James Sells; Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Sells, Fort Dodge and Mr. and Mrs. Cunningham, Elmore, Minn.;
