Robert "Bud" Dorenkamp, 82, died, Monday, June 1 at the hospital in Westminster, CA. Services will be held Saturday, June 6 at 10:30 a.m. at Andrews Funeral Home in Belmond with Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Burial with military honors will be in the Immanuel Reformed Cemetery east of Belmond. Visitation will be from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and continue one hour prior to the funeral service Saturday. Robert was the brother of Leona Lieberknecht and Bonnie Boelman of Belmond.

MESERVEY - Robert "Bud" B. Dorenkamp, 82, of Lakewood, Calif., a native of Meservey, and brother to Leona Lieberknecht and Bonnie Boelman, both of Belmond, died Monday (June 1, 2009) at the Westminster Hospital, Westminster, Calif. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 6, 2009, at the Andrews Funeral Home, 516 First St. S.E. in Belmond, with the Rev. Rodney Meester of the First Reformed Church of Meservey officiating. Burial with full military honors will be in the Immanuel Reformed Church Cemetery east of Belmond. Visitation will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today, Friday, at the Andrews Funeral Home in Belmond and continue one hour prior to the services Saturday.

Robert Benjamin Dorenkamp, the son of Jacob and Rosa (Pals) Dorenkamp, was born Feb. 15, 1927, on his parents farm north of Meservey. He was one of 11 children to bless this family. Robert graduated from Meservey High School. He had enlisted in the United States Navy during his senior year of high school. Bud served for a number of years in the Navy and during this time had served a stint on the USS Pennsylvania during World War II. After being honorably discharged from his military tenure, Bud was employed for many years as an underground nuclear missile sight inspector for the United States government. His career took him throughout the United States, as well as to various countries throughout the world. In later years, following retirement from his nuclear inspector career, he managed various car washes in the Los Angeles, Calif., area. For much of his adult life, Bud made his home in the Lakewood, Calif., area where he lived a quiet life as a bachelor. As his health declined in later years he had lived in a community designed for veterans.

Robert "Bud" is surived by his sister, Leona Lieberknecht, and Bonnie Boelman, both of Belmond, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Ruth Dorenkamp, of Clear Lake; and many nieces and nephews and extended family. He was preceded in death by his parents, his six sisters: Nettie Watermiller, Martha Heykants, Luella Boelman, Ethel Dorenkamp, Ruth Suntken, and Marie Schott; his two brothers, Lewis and Lester Dorenkamp; and various other family members.
