Merle L. Tuttle, 62, 1100 6th Ave S., Clear Lake, IA, died Thursday, June 29, 2006 at Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit of North Iowa, Mason City, IA. A Funeral service will be held Monday, July 3, 1:30 PM, at the United Methodist Church, 508 2nd Ave N., Clear Lake, IA with Rev. Diana Hoover officiating. Visitation will be Sunday from 2:30 – 5:30 PM at Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, 101 N. 4th St., Clear Lake. Interment will be at the Grant Township Cemetery, Rural Fertile, IA. Memorials may be given to Hospice of North Iowa in his name.

Merle was born Sept. 16, 1943, in rural Clarion, IA, the son of Morgan Levard and Ethel Mae (Luick) Tuttle. His family moved when he was young to Fertile. He graduated from Fertile High School in 1962. Merle married Mickey Klasse Feb. 6, 1965. They lived in rural Clear Lake, then moved to rural Fertile. They divorced in 1987. He farmed in the Clear Lake-Fertile area for the majority of his life. In the late 70’s and early 80’s he owned and operated Tuttle Feed Store in Clear Lake and Fertile. He also worked for his brother Bob at Tuttle Asphalt. He last worked as a truck driver for Mason City Recycling, retiring in March of 2006. Merle liked to travel, spending time with friends and family, flying earlier in life, and an occasional game of golf. He dabbled in politics. He was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Merle is survived by three children, Bill Tuttle and fiancé Tonya Runge, Mason City, IA, Becky Ubben and her husband Matt, Clear Lake, IA and Jennifer Tuttle and her special friend Adam Duffy, Mason City, IA; grandchildren Sadie Lundry, Codie Ubben, Morgan Williams and Treasure Runge; sister Betty Waddington, Hanlontown, IA and brother Bob Tuttle and his wife Deb, Mason City, IA; and several nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Merle was preceded in death by his parents, 2 infant brothers Leo Dean and William Robert Tuttle, brother Larry Lee Tuttle and brother-in-law Don Waddington.
