James Duffy, Civil War Veteran Interred at Rowan. Final Rites for James Duffy held in Congregational Church last Sunday.

Relatives received word of the death of Mr. James Duffy at Cherokee last Thursday. Mr. W. A. Duffy left immediately for there and made arrangement for the body to be brought to the undertaking parlors at Clarion where it remained until Saturday when funeral services were held from the Congregational Church at 2:00 P.M. with Rev. Marguardt in charge. Mr. Duffy was a Civil War veteran and the following members of the Andrew Whitten Post of the American Legion, Harry Cain, Frank Retleff, Clarence Stober, Harvey Lineweaver, Albert Moellering, and Fred Aldinger served as pall bearers. Those from out of town in attendance were: Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Pepper, Mrs. Joe Hubbel, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pepper and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. D. B. Pepper of Dows, Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Perry and Mr. and Mrs. George Hill of Clarion, Mr. and Mrs. Shirley Ketchum of Galt and Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Miller of Vernon Township.

James Duffy, son of Robert and Nancy Duffy, was born in Belleville, Ontario, Canada on Jan. 23, 1843 and died at Cherokee, Ia. On Sept. 18, 1930 at the age of 87 years, 7 months, and 25 days. When a child he moved with his parents to Thompsonville, Conn, In 1860 they moved to Wright County, Iowa. James Duffy enlisted in the Army during the Civil War on August 14, 1863 as a Private in Company A, 32 Regiment, Iowa Infantry. He served three years and was mustered out of service as a corporal on August 24, 1865.

He is survived by one brother, William of Rowan, Iowa, and one sister Roberta Berryhill of Laporte City, Iowa. Two sisters, Fanny preceded him in death. He is also survived by numerous other relatives and friends who extend sympathy in this hour of sorrow.
