Kenneth Carl Helmich was born June 25, 1939, at rural Renwick to Carl and Violet (Norris) Helmich. He was baptized on October 1, 1939, and confirmed on April 11, 1954, both at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick. Ken graduated from Renwick High School in 1958. He farmed with his father until enlisting in the United States Air Force. He served for four years, and following his honorable discharge, returned to Renwick to continue farming. Ken enjoyed reading and woodworking. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Renwick, the Farm Bureau and served on the Co-op Elevator Board of Directors.

Ken died on Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at his farm near Renwick at the age of 69. Survivors include his sisters, Sandra and husband Roy Stevenson of The Woodlands, Texas, Karen and husband Mark Lamb of Des Moines, Iowa, and Joan and husband Neelo Boomgaarden of Omaha, Nebraska, one nephew, Eric Stevenson of Columbia, Pennsylvania, two nieces, Karen Lee of Sale, England and Georgina Wedge of Locke Heath, England, two grand nephews, Karl Stevenson and Alan Wedge and two grand nieces, Catherine Lee and Adria Stevenson. Ken was preceded in death by his parents and one sister Nancy Jobson. Memorials may be directed to the Renwick Ambulance Fund, Renwick, Iowa.
