Laverne Larsen Bernhard, 94, of Kuna, Idaho passed away at his home on Tuesday, April 28, 2009. Laverne was born in Goodell, Iowa on July 22, 1914, and was one of nine children born to Hans Sigvold Bernhard and Carrie Larsen Bernhard. When he was a young boy the family moved to Southern California, where he grew up in the South Bay Area. He married Doris Cauldwell on April 4, 1934 in Santa Ana, Calif. and they raised five children mainly in the Downey, Calif. area. As a young man he attended Frank Wiggins Trade School in Los Angeles, Calif. and became a bricklayer and later a mason contractor. Laverne and Doris moved to the Nampa / Kuna, Idaho area in 1987, where they would spend the rest of their days together. Laverne was a member of the Elks Lodge; loved to hunt, fish, and be outdoors. He also liked ballroom dancing and square dancing, riding horses, and loved spending time with his family. Laverne is survived by his wife of 75 years, Doris Bernhard of Kuna; daughter, Carol Rhoades of Yorba Linda, Calif.; daughter, Arlene (Ray) Morrow of Kuna, Idaho; daughter, Gail (Milton) Ramas of Agoura, Calif.; son, Michael Bernhard of Meridian, Idaho; daughter-in-law, Joan Bernhard of Fullerton, Calif.; sister, Marian Locke of Lawndale, Calif.; 17 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Paul Grant Bernhard; and seven brothers and sisters. No services will be held at his request. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be sent to Legacy Hospice (680 S. Progress Ave.; Ste. 4A; Meridian, ID 83642). Cremation was entrusted to Alsip & Persons Funeral Chapel, Nampa, ID;
