Mrs. Amelia Lemke is Laid to Rest Here Tuesday Afternoon

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 at the St John's Lutheran church in Casey for Mrs. Amelia Lemke, long time Casey resident. Rev. Theo Heomann conducted the service. Three songs were sung by Mrs. Mildred Hogan and Mrs. Lloyd Peterson, "Abide with Me", "Rock of Ages", and "Asleep in Jesus", and were accompanied on the organ by Mrs. Arnold Krause.Mrs. Norman Kading and Mrs. Alvin Croisant were in charge of the floral offering. Burial was made in the Oakwood Cemetery with grandsons serving as casket bearers: Gerald Thiel, Wheaton, Minnesota; Wayne Hager, Casey; Alfred Lemke, Fontanelle; Chas. Bertran, Eagle Grove; Donald Lemke, Bayard; and Everett Boss, Menlo.

Mrs. Amelia Louise Ulricka Lemke, daughter of William Kempe and his wife Johanna Neitzel, was born on the 15th of Jne, 1867, in Kleinerada, Hinterpomern, Germany and departed this life on Friday, March 16, 1956 at the home of her daughter, Anna, at Eagle Grove at the age of 88 years, 9 months and 1 day. She was baptized in the Lutheran faith and at the age of fourteen was confirmed in the Lutheran church. After her confirmation she helped at her home for two years and then came to Casey with her parents. On February 8 she was given in marriage to Carl Lemke, which union was blessed with ten children, six sons and four daughters. They lived on a farm until the year 1914, at which time they moved into town. Both were always closely connected with the St. John's Lutheran church where Mrs. Lemke was a charter member of the Ladies Aid. In the course of here long life she experienced much sorrow. Her husband was called to his eternal rest in the year of 1928, her brothers, Fred and Carl, as also her two sister Henriette and Anna preceded her in death. Besides that, her son, Charlie, was called home in 1919 and Henry in 1932.

She leaves to mourn her departure, William of Golden, Colorado, Herman of Guthrie Center, August of Casey, Alvena Smith of Wheaton, Minn., Anna Hossman of Eagle Grove, Marie Boss of Menlo, Augusta Hager of Casey and Edmund of Casey. Twenty-five grandchildren and fifty-five great-grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends. Those attending the services from a distance included: Mrs. Alvena Smith, Wheaton, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Thiel and Rodney, of Wheaton, Minn., Mrs. John Peper, Hines, Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Comly and Darlene Denair, Calif., Mr. and Mrs. Carl Lemke and Roxane, Colorado Springs, Colo., Mr. and Mrs. Frank Hossman, Eagle Grove, Iowa, Mrs. and Mrs. Charles Bertran, Duncombe, Iowa, Mrs. Francis Hossman, Eagle Grove, Mr. and Mrs. Gene Boss, Jefferson, Mr. and Mrs. Fred Dahl, Dexter, Mrs. John Ehrenfried, Fontanelle, Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lemke, Bayard, Mrs. Mamie Long of California, Mr. and Mrs. Bob Littler and Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Schnoor of Des Moines. Mr. and Mrs. Louis Lemke, DeSoto, Mrs. Zene Wynkoop and Mrs. Orville Hager, Earlham, Mr. and Mrs. Alfred Lemke, Fontanelle, Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Horn of Stuart, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Boss, Mrs. and Mrs. Everett Boss and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Boss of Menlo, Mrs. Don Thornburg, Menlo, Mrs. Howard Ford, Stuart, Mr. and Mrs. Herman Lemke and Betty, Mr. and Mrs. Dick French, Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Crabbs, Mr. and Mrs. Veryl Lemke and Marvin and Mr. and Mrs. Chuck Hansen all of Guthrie Center, Mrs. Hannah Dunkerson of Greenfield and Rev.
