Lavonne H. McCoy, 85, Belmond, died March 17, 2009 at the Belmond Health Care Center. Memorial services and burial will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, May 30 at the Alexander Cemetery with Pastor JoAn Skyrme officiating. A picnic lunch will follow at Belmond's Swimming Pool Park. A park bench installed in Lavonne's memory will be dedicated. Memorials may be directed to the City of Belmond Parks Department. Arrangements are being handled by the Dugger Funeral Home. Lavonne Helen, the daughter of Elias and Helena Pearson Klienfelter, was born October 18, 1923 in Alexander. She grew up in that area, attending country schools and the Alexander Community School, and graduated in 1941. Lavonne married Donovan G. McCoy on October 20, 1942 in Baltimore, MD. They made their home in Baltimore during World War II. After the war Donovan and Lavonne made their home in Dows, Belmond and Ames, moving to Rowan in 1986. Donovan died in 1987. Lavonne enjoyed collecting plates, bells, brooms, dolls, pictures, hats and hat pins. She enjoyed visiting an Indian reservation in South Dakota and trips to Branson. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sisters Evenette and Mildred; and brother Shorty. Lavonne is survived by her son Jeff (Holly) of Bettendorf; grandchildren Shannon (Ryan) Redington, Emmalee (Andrew) Forth and Michaela (Trent) Hill; great grandchild Broxton; and sisters Bernie Chandler and Jeannette Schroeder of Belmond.
