Nina Marie Dorr, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 18, 1998 at the Belmond Community Hospital. Funeral services were held Thursday, Jan. 22, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Belmond, Iowa, with the Rev. Jack Paisley officiating. Nina was born Jan. 18, 1912 in Meservey, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin M. and Elizabeth W. Wickersheim Schmidt. She attended Belmond school, graduating from the Belmond High School as class valedictorian in 1930. She was united in marriage with Lauron Dorr. The couple made their home in Belmond where Lauron owned and operated a trucking business and then later farmed. They later moved to Riceville, Iowa, where he farmed, before moving to Clear Lake. After Lauron’s passing, Nina lived for a period of time in Clear Lake, Florida, and Britt, Iowa, before moving to the Belmond Apartments in early 1980. She then moved into the Belmond Health Care Center in 1987. Nina was a member of the St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, the Rosary Society and the Rebekah’s.

She is survived by a daughter-in-law, Shirley Dorr of Montugue, Mich.; three grandchildren, Gary Dorr, Austin, Minn., Matthew Dorr and his wife, Sally, of Adams, Minn., Laurinda Bourgauet of Panama City, Fla; five great-grandchildren, Kemp, Jalissa, Ashley, Matthew Jr., Shannon; a sister, Mona Landsberg of Britt; and various other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Deane; and a sister, Ina Olson. Pallbearers were Terry Anderson, Patrick Dorr, Terry Dorr, Tim Dorr, Stan Olson, and Steve Olson.
