Duane Joseph Hanig

U.S. Veteran Duane Joseph Hanig, 76, of Waterloo, died Wednesday, March 25, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home. He was born September 19, 1932 in Ackley Iowa to Joseph and Helen Arndorfer Hanig. Duane graduated from Ackley High School in 1950 and married Inez Mattie Marshall on June 16, 1956 in Clarion, Iowa at St. John Catholic Church. Duane served in the Army during the Korean War and worked at the John Deere Credit Union (now Veridian) for 23 years as a loan officer as well as Public Loan and the Anniston Army Depot Federal Credit Union. He was a long time parishioner of Sacred Heart Church and served as president of the first Parish Council.

Survivors include: his wife and four children: Jolene Hanig-Jones (Bob Jones) of Bridgeville, Pa., Jeff (Lori) of Sugar Land, Tx., Sandra of Northampton, Ma., Tom (Kathy) of Papillion, Neb., four grandchildren: Chelsey and Carolyn, Ben, and Justin. Two sisters: Marjorie Kampman of Dumont, and Norma (Joe Diano) Henderson of Florence, Az.; Brother and sisters-in-law: Daryl Marshall, Maxine Spencer; Betty and Richard Fibikar, Marilyn Marshall , Theresa and Carl Hollebrands, Kay Marshall, Mary Ann and Al Gathman, and Phyllis and Daryl Zwiefel and many nephews and nieces. He is preceded in death by his parents and wife’s parents H. Ralph and Alla Ethel Marshall, brothers-in-law Harvey Kampman, Andy Anderson, Miles Henderson, Robert and Rush Marshall, Gene Spencer and sister-in-law Juanita Marshall.

Services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with burial at 1:30 p.m. at the Evergreen Cemetery, Clarion. Public visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Hagarty-Waychoff-Grarup Funeral Service on South Street, where there will be a 4 p.m. rosary and a 7 p.m. vigil service. Visitation will also be at the church for an hour before services on Saturday. Memorials may be directed to the Ackley Veteran’s Memorial, Sacred Heart Catholic Church or Cedar Valley Hospice. Duane was very proud of his family, faith and serving his country and his community. He was a good husband and father who enjoyed traveling, reading, and singing.
