SHEFFIELD - Henry E. Pals, 93, of Sheffield, Iowa, died Sunday evening, March 14, 1999, at North Iowa Mercy Health Center. Funeral services for Henry will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Grarup Funeral Home, in Sheffield, with the Rev. Merlin Enabnit officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery, Meservey, Iowa. Visitation will be held two hours prior to services on Wednesday at the Grarup Funeral Home, Sheffield. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider memorials to the Henry E. Pals Memorial fund.

Henry was born on January 18, 1906, in Wisner Township, Franklin County, Iowa. He was the second child of six children born to Peter H. and Gesena (Wolters) Pals. His family farmed in the Belmond and Meservey areas. Henry, better known as Hank, met and married Edna M. Johnson on April 19, 1930, in Meservey. To this union were born seven children. Henry farmed in the Meservey, Clear Lake, and Rockwell areas before retiring in 1965. He worked at the Mason City Brick and Tile and continued to live in Sheffield. For the past six years, he resided in the I.O.O.F. home in Mason City. He loved his family and grandchildren and was known for his kind, patient ways.

Henry is survived by one daughter, Patricia Enabnit and her husband, Ronald, of Iola, Kan.; four sons, Ronald Pals, of Mason City, Marvin "Pete" Pals, of Sheffield; Jerald Pals and his wife, Lois, of Mason City; and Allen Pals and his wife, Connie, of Warsau, Mo.; 20 grandchildren; and many great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lena Lock, of Mason City, Lydia Hemmes, of Hampton, and Marie Vierkant, of Texas; and one brother, Andrew Pals, of Meservey, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, two daughters, and one brother.
