Marilyn Jean Brown, 65, formerly of Newton, died January 22, 2009 at her home in Des Moines following a long period of declining health. A memorial gathering was held January 25 at the Westover Chapel of Iles Funeral Homes in Des Moines.
Marilyn Jean, the daughter of Granville and Dorothy (Johnson) Mehus, was born at the Belmond Hospital on November 30, 1943. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Olaf Lutheran Church. She graduated from Kanawha High School in 1961. She later attended AIB in Des Moines and was employed as a legal assistant at a law firm in Newton for many years. On July 15, 1962 she married David Brown of Newton at the Little Brown Church near Nashua. They raised their children Tammy and Chris in Newton.
Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son Chris; and sister Sandra. Survivors include her daughter Tammy (Brian) Rubarts of Plano, TX; grandchildren Amanda, Toby and Todd; two great grandchildren; brother Bruce (Helen) Mehus and nephew Brian Mehus of Indiana, PA; niece Melanie (Adam) Kmetz of Mesquite, TX; her fiance Peter Dubec of Des Moines; and uncle and aunt Leland and Adean Dorr of Belmond.
