January 22, 2005LYONS, KANSAS-- Ralph E. Shafer, 92, died Jan. 19, 2005, at Good Samaritan Center, Lyons. He was born Aug. 24, 1912, at Webster City, Iowa, the son of Edward J. and Nettie Elizabeth Whaley Shafer. A resident of Lyons since 1993, formerly a 15- year resident of Buhler, he was a retired Nazarene minister. He served in Liberal, Plainville, Winfield, McPherson, Hoisington, Wellington, Kingman, Arkansas City and Gaylord and was a senior adult pastor at Bethany, Hutchinson. He belonged to Church of the Nazarene, Lyons, Sams and Kiwanis Club. On Sept. 2, 1937, he married Ovella J. Satre at Jewell, Iowa. She died Sept. 16, 1991. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Harry J. Shafer and George Studley; and three sisters, Alberta Doolittle, Pearl Hammond and Mildred Crawford. Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Foster Funeral Home Chapel, Webster City, with the Rev. Robert E. Friesen presiding. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time Tuesday at Foster Funeral Home Chapel, Webster City. Burial will be in Webster City Cass Center Cemetery.
