BEVINGTON, IA — Funeral services for Alice Colleen Rasmussen, 78, of Bevington, formerly of Newton, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 10, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home in Newton. A visitation with the family will be from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. today, Friday, Jan. 9, at the Pence-Reese Funeral Home. Memorials are being designated in Colleen’s name or to the Cumming Community Church, and may be left at the funeral home or church.

Alice “Colleen” Rasmussen, the daughter of Leon L. and Ruby B. (Wade) Murray, was born on June 8, 1930, in Goldfield. She was a graduate of the Newton Senior High School, class of 1951. Colleen was retired from Blue Cross and Blue Shield, in the claims and records department. On Oct. 2, 1971, Colleen was united in marriage with Richard Rasmussen in Des Moines. She had devoted her life to her family, nieces and nephews, and was a member of the Cumming Community Church. Colleen enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, her cats and dogs. Colleen died on Wednesday evening, Jan. 7, 2009, in the Monarch Wing of Skiff Medical Center in Newton. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard in 2004; and a sister, Marian Mikesell in 1994. Those left to honor Colleen’s memory include her sisters, Phyllis Avitt of Ankeny, Donna (Vince) Bauer of Newton, Gayle (Jack) Thomas of Sherwood, Ark., and Sharron (Bill) Seaman of Des Moines; her brother, Ron Murray of Newton; her many nieces and nephews; and many good neighbors and friends.
