Ernest Cupp, 82, of Webster City, a longtime Webster City businessman, died Saturday, January 10, 2009 at his home. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dr. Mike Kroona officiating. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral and Cremation Center from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday and after 9:00 a.m. Wednesday at the church.

Ernest Earl Cupp, son of Reuben and Grace Hubbell Cupp, was born April 1, 1926 at Dows. He graduated from Blairsburg Public School. In 1943, he joined the U.S. Navy and served on the L.S.T. 576 as a motor machinist mate. Following his discharge, he returned to Iowa and farmed with his father, north of Clarion. He moved to Webster City in October of 1947. He married Geneva Alexander and to this union two children were born, Karilyn and Keith. The couple were later divorced. Ernie owned and operated a Phillips 66 Service Station on Second Street in Webster City for 29 years. On October 21,1974, he married Cleta Watters Johnson at Sioux Falls, SD. The couple owned and operated Webster City Floral for 17 years, he retired in 1993. He drove a school bus for the Webster City school system for 20 plus years.

Ernie is survived by his wife, Cleta; daughter, Karilyn Cupp of Webster City; step-children, Gary and Janna Johnson of Perry; Marty and Gloria Johnson of Webster City; Ranae Mortenson of Ames; grandchildren, Joshua and Danielle Johnson; Jordan Johnson; Cody and Katie Johnson; Austin Johnson; Zachary and Tammy Mortenson; Nicholas and Tina Mortenson; Alex Mortenson; Lindsey Mortenson and Rylee Mortenson; great-grandchildren, Ali, Jadyn and Jason Mortenson. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents and son, Keith Cupp in 1999.

He was a member of the Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church and was past president of the Webster City Lions Club.
