Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaDolores E. Swenson, 85, of Fort Dodge, died on Thursday, January 1, 2009, at Trinity Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 6th, at 11:00 am in the Chapel of the Laufersweiler-Sievers Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Van Nostrand, Pastor of St John's Lutheran Church in Vincent officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday at the funeral home.
Survivors include her son, Larry Swenson of North Fort Myers, FL; 3 grandchildren; brothers, Delbert Estlund of Fort Dodge; sisters, Inez Carpentier of Fort Dodge, and Nina Standley of Duncombe. She was preceded in death by her parents, Herbert J. and Magdaline (Bastian) Estlund; son, Curtis; and brothers, Dennis, Delmer, and Melvin Estlund.
Dolores Evonne Estlund was born on August 26, 1923, on the family farm near Vincent. She moved to Fort Dodge with her parents in 1941. She worked at Rodenborn's Glove Factory and the Laramar. Dolores was united in marriage to Kendrick Swenson on July 11, 1943, and the couple established their home on a farm near Burnside. They later moved to Fort Dodge where she worked at Tony's Restaurant. When Kendrick was transferred to Mason City she worked at Younkers and Sears. They then moved to Clinton where they managed the Travel Lodge Motel. Dolores and her husband gave Ball Room Dance Lessons at various towns for about 5 years. The couple later moved to Clear Lake and worked at the Unisus Computer Plant. They were later divorced. She retired in 1985 and moved back to Fort Dodge in 1987. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
