Eunice M. Ernst, 86, of Humboldt, passed away May 31, 2007 at the Plaza Care Center in Manning. Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m. Monday at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Humboldt with the Rev. Paul Bengtson officiating. She will be laid to rest in Trinity Cemetery at Hardy. Visitation is from 3-7 p.m. Sunday at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral Home in Humboldt.
Mrs. Ernst is survived by her children, Bob (Kim Hahn) Ernst of San Rafael, California, Mike (Lanette) Ernst of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Becky (Tom) Danner of Manning; grandchildren, Maren and Amanda Ernst; step grandchildren, Heath (Tanya) Danner, Jeanne (Eric) Kerkhoff, Jessi Danner, Ben Danner, and Jayne Danner; six step great grandchildren; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Helena Hockel of Fort Dodge, Pat Ernst of Kirksville, MO, Jim Moline of Humboldt, and Gene and Doris Ernst of Humboldt. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Edwin; brothers, Richard, Ray, Burton, Orville, and Archie Hockel; and sisters, Cecile Jenkins and Margaret Moline.
Eunice Marie Hockel the daughter of Ben and Helen Nelson Hockel was born November 25, 1920 at Hardy, Iowa. She attended country schools near Hardy and following her education helped to care for her mother. She was united in marriage to Edwin Ernst on July 17, 1944 at the Irving Park Lutheran Church in Chicago where Edwin was stationed in the Navy. Following his discharge, the couple returned to Humboldt County where they began farming. Mr. Ernst passed away in 1959 and in 1960, Eunice moved to Humboldt. She maintained her home at Humboldt until becoming a resident of the Humboldt care centers in October of 2004. In October of 2005, she made her home at The Plaza in Manning. She passed away there on the morning of May 31, 2007 at the age of 86.
Mrs. Ernst was a member of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church in Humboldt and was active in E.L.C.W. For several years, Eunice was employed by the Beacon Motel in Humboldt. She was very close to her brothers and sisters and enjoyed playing cards with her family and bowling.
