Mildred Lucile Bernard, 97, teacher & volunteer

Mildred Lucile Bernard, 1911-2008, died November 18, 2008, in Portland, Oregon. She was a resident of Eagle Grove from her birth on the Allen family farm in Troy Township until 1992 when she moved to Portland, Oregon, to be near her remaining family. She graduated from Eagle Grove High School in 1928. She went on to graduate from Eagle Grove Junior College in 1930. She then taught school in a rural school until 1940 when she married George M. Bernard. They farmed his home farm together until his death in 1972. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, Troy Culture Club, Woolstock Homemakers’ Club, and a 4-H leader. Surviving Lucile Bernard are several nieces. Remembrances may be sent to Eagle Grove United Methodist Church.
