PEKIN, ILLINOIS - Gary L. Aupperle, 67, of 2212 Valentine passed away at 9:50 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2008, at his residence. He was born July 8, 1941, in Clarion, Iowa, to Earl Glen and Shirley (Renfro) Aupperle. He married Diane L. Brechtel on Feb. 14, 1975, in Freeport. She survives. Also surviving are one son, Chad B. (Kim) Aupperle of Lake in the Hills; one daughter, Courtney L. (Andy) Filarski of Bloomington; two grandchildren, Lucas Ryan Filarski and Bryce Jordan Aupperle; two brothers, Gordon A. (Theresa) Aupperle of East Peoria and Dennis R. Aupperle of Chillicothe; and one stepbrother, Richard (Oneta) Moon of North Pekin. His parents preceded him in death.

A 1959 graduate of Oelwein (Iowa) Community High School, Gary worked out of high school for the Chicago & Northwestern Railroad. Gary then served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War from 1963 to 1967. Following his discharge from the service, Gary worked for IBM for six years. Gary retired from Caterpillar Inc. in 2003, with 30 years of service, last working as a senior systems analyst in East Peoria. He enjoyed working with computers and electronics and was known as a gadget man. He enjoyed working crossword puzzles. He also was fond of his dog, Lucia. He attended Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin.

His funeral will be at 5 p.m. Friday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Home, Pekin Chapel. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. A flag-folding ceremony will be provided by the United States Air Force. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Cremation will follow the funeral. Burial of ashes will be in Lakeview Cemetery in Pekin at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to Grace United Methodist Church, 503 N. Fourth St., Pekin, IL 61554.
