Longtime Sonora resident Donald E. McCausland died Aug. 6 at a Modesto care home. He was 88. Mr. McCausland was born in Eagle Grove, Iowa, and lived in Sonora for more than 53 years before he and his wife moved to Modesto last year. He was the owner and operator of Shaws Flat Frozen Food Locker from 1953 to 1966, and also owned and operated an ice house and bar. He was a veteran of the Marine Corps and served during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He was a past member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Sonora Elks Lodge.

Mr. McCausland is survived by his wife of 58 years, Marion McCausland, of Modesto; son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Nola McCaulsand, of Colusa; and grandson, Donald B. McCausland, of Sacramento. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at Shaws Flat Cemetery. Terzich and Wilson Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
