Maynard L. Hiveley, 79, Veteran & hard worker

Maynard LeRoy Hiveley, the son of Lloyd E. and Elizabeth P. (Bennett) Hiveley, was born May 27, 1929, in Duncombe, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area of his birth, attending country school near Homer, Iowa. In December of 1947, he entered the United States Army, serving until December of 1949, when he received an Honorable Discharge. On September 9, 1948, he was united in marriage with Faye Dennis at the home of Rev. Guy Fowler in Webster City. He was a factory worker, welder, farmer, mechanic, baker, a truck driver, worked high construction for PDM, Gus Glaser, and for Hormel in Fort Dodge. He was a member of the Elks in Wichita, the American Legion in Goldfield, and the VFW in Eagle Grove. He grew up in the Free United Methodist Church and later joined the Reorganized Latter Day Saints Church. He enjoyed fishing, woodworking, hunting, bird watching, and gardening. He loved to cook and bake, work on vehicles, and spoil his grandchildren.

Maynard Hiveley died on Sunday, November 9, 2008, at Mary Greeley Medical Center, in Ames, at the age of 79 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Faye, in 2007, and his brother, Eugene. Survivors include his children: Eloise Hunter of Goldfield, Elizabeth Smith, and husband, Bernard, of Valley Center, Kan., Kriss Hiveley, and wife, Dorothy, of Goldfield, Nancy Phyle, and husband, Larry, of Wichita, Maynard A. Hiveley, and wife, Sheryl, of Goldfield, and Boyd Hiveley, and wife, Vivi-Ann of Haysville, Kan.; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great grandchildren; sister, Geraldine Kent, and husband, Myron, of Stratford, Wayne Hiveley, and wife, Bessie, of Lehigh, and Elwood Hiveley, and wife, Carol, of Woolstock.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 12, at the Goldfield United Methodist Church with Pastor Deane Dennis and Pastor Dale Schoening officiating. Burial was held in Glenwood Cemetery, Goldfield. Memorial contributions may be left to the discretion of the family. Foust Funeral Home of Eagle Grove was in charge of arrangements.
