URBANDALE - Madalyn J. Dockum, 82, formerly of Fort Dodge, died on Tuesday, November 25, 2008, at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center in Johnston, Iowa. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 29, at Grace Lutheran Church, located at 52nd Street and Urbandale Avenue in Des Moines. Burial will take place at 3 p.m. on Saturday at Memorial Park Cemetery in Fort Dodge, Iowa.

Madalyn June Lund, the daughter of Ernest and Alice (Sebber) Lund, was born June 30, 1926, at Vincent, IA. After graduating from Fort Dodge High School, she worked for the Fort Dodge Board of Education. Madalyn then attended Iowa State Teachers College and taught rural school in Newark Township, Vincent, IA, for two years. She was united in marriage to Gerald Dockum on June 22, 1952, and lived in Texas and Clear Lake before moving to Des Moines in 1958. Madalyn worked in the Law Library at Drake University from 1978 until her retirement in 1989.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband of 56 years, Gerald Dockum of Urbandale; two sons, Gregory (Mary Ellen) Dockum of Urbandale and Paul (Karlene) Dockum of Green Bay, WI; seven grandchildren: Kari, Zach, Jake, Chris, Abby, Trey and Luke; one sister, Mildred (Gene) Pingel of Vincent; and a host of many other family members and dear friends. Madalyn was preceded in death by her parents and daughter, Elizabeth Anne.

Madalyn was a long time member of Grace Lutheran Church of which she was involved in Sunday school, Church Council and the Altar Guild. She was also active in Samuelson Elementary PTA and Beaverdale Little League. Visitation will begin at 5 p.m. on Friday, November 28, at Iles Funeral Homes Westover Chapel in Des Moines, where the family will greet friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the nurses, staff and volunteers at Bishop Drumm Retirement Center for their loving care of Madalyn over the past six years. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either Grace Lutheran Church or Bishop Drumm Retirement Center.
