Navy Lt. Scott Bubeck, a Belmond native, was killed last week when his FA-18 crashed on take-off from the USS Saratoga. The Saratoga was stationed in the Adriatic Sea off the Italian coast and Bubeck was part of the NATO "Deny Flight" mission over Bosnia. Bubeck, 30, was the oldest of three children born to Larry and Janean (Lieberknecht) Bubeck. Scott was born in Belmond but he and his family spent most of his childhood in Zaire, Africa.
