MASON CITY - Hans C. Wiedemann passed away at the Desert Springs Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada, on October 26, 2008. Hans will be interred at Elmwood-St. Joseph Cemetery in Mason City, Iowa, next to his beloved wife of 36 years, Maria Wernitz Wiedemann.
Mr. Wiedemann was born in Leipzig, Germany, on June 26, 1927, and immigrated to the United States through the Lutheran Refugee Service Program. The Wiedemann family was sponsored by the First Lutheran Church in Dows, Iowa in 1956. Hans and Maria were owner-operators of Northern Vending Company for many years prior to Maria's death in 1985. Hans was a member of the Automatic Vendors of America and was their delegate to Central America as well as being on the Board of Governors of the Iowa State Council of the National Automatic Merchandising Association. Hans was also a member of Rotary International where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow. He was an avid philatelist for over 30 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Mason City where he served on the Board of Trustees.
Hans is survived by his three children, Benno Wiedemann (Paulette), Dagmar McCarron (Brian), Eva Eckburg (Jim); and five grandchildren, Douglas, Sarah, Matthew, Mark and Erika. The family asks all donations be made to Trinity Lutheran Church.
