Alexander Romolai, 91, of Fort Dodge passed away on Sunday, October 5, 2008 at the Marian Home. Alex was born in Poland on June 10, 1917 to Peter and Janina Romolai. Alex was sponsored in 1951 by the North Central Telephone Company to come to the United States. He started as a combination telephone man and became the central office engineer in 1970. He retired in 1982 as the plant manager serving in Badger, Clare, Thor, Duncombe and Vincent.

Alex moved to Fort Dodge in 1953. He was united in marriage to Inga Marie Christensen on Oct. 6, 1956. They made their home for 50 years across the street from the tennis courts, where he enjoyed watching people of all ages swing their rackets. He was a "handy man" and loved to garden. Alex was a member of Corpus Christi Church and past member of the Elks.

Alex is survived by his sister-in-law Bente Agerbak, Denmark; several nephews and nieces in Denmark, Norway and Ernst Kramme of Arkansas. He is also survived by his loving friend, Cary Estlund and her husband Steve, of Fort Dodge. Alex was preceded in death by his loving wife Inga and his parents.

The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday October 7, 2008 at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with burial following at Corpus Christi Cemetery. The visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be left to the Paula Baber Hospice House of Fort Dodge, Iowa.
