Lillian E. Purkapile, 92, of the Greenleaf Retirement Community in Fort Dodge, died Monday, October 6, 2008 at Trinity Regional Medical Center in Fort Dodge. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the Gunderson Funeral Chapel with Rev. Dr. James H. Chestnutt officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the Gunderson Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Fort Dodge.

Survivors include a son, Gail Foster, his wife Janiece and daughters, Sandra Gobeli, both of Fort Dodge and Judy Johnson of Duncombe; 11 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and 7 great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Franklin Messerly of Moorland. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Raymond Foster, Firman Kelley, and Richard Purkapile; a daughter, Marlene Brockman and an infant son, Marvin Foster; a grandson; her parents; and two sisters.

Lillian E. Messerly, the daughter of Frank and Anna (Benson) Messerly, was born August 4, 1916 on a farm near Vincent, Iowa and attended school in Moorland. She worked for Gus Glaser Meats for 25 years, retiring in 1974. Lillian entered the Greenleaf Retirement Community in 2004. She was a member of Epworth United Methodist in Fort Dodge. Memorials may be left to the discretion of the family.
