Gerald H. Meyer, 73, Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, died Tuesday, March 11, 2008 at Pioneer Memorial Care Center, Erskine, Minnesota. Gerald was born on October 19, 1934 to George and Martha (Lemke) Meyer in Alexander, Iowa. When Gerald was young, his family moved to Barnesville, Minnesota, where he was raised and educated. He graduated from Barnesville High School. Gerald was married to Janet Mikkelsen on June 17, 1955. Gerald worked as an artificial breeder in the cattle industry. They lived in the Barnesville, Little Falls, Lake Park, and Twin Valley areas before moving to Detroit Lakes in 1973. On August 22, 1998 Gerald married Loretta Maruska in Mahnomen, MN. They made their home in Detroit Lakes and he worked as an Area Director for 21st Century Genetics. Gerald loved fishing, hunting, bowling, and birdwatching. He was known for his sense of humor and his sweet tooth. He also loved to tease his grandchildren. Gerald was an active member and past president of the Eagles Club in Detroit Lakes.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Loretta; three daughters, Paulette Schroeder of Spring Valley, California; Cora Lee (Harry) Wittmayer, West Fargo, North Dakota; Jennifer Dilbeck of Moorhead, Minnesota; three step-daughters, Kimberly (Jay) Tunheim of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; Charlotte Maruska of Red Lake Falls, Minnesota; Brenda (John) Nelson of Erskine, Minnesota; four stepsons, Don (Karen) Maruska of Sartell, Minnesota; Darin (Melissa) Maruska of Big lake, Minnesota; Douglas (Amy) Maruska of Lengby, Minnesota; Keith (Lynette) Maruska of Clear Lake, Minnesota; twenty four grandchildren; five great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Vera Mikkelsen; one brother, Leroy (Mary) Meyer of Idaho Falls, Idaho; one sister, Joyce (Sam) Braton of Barnesville, Minnesota; numerous nieces and nephews. Gerald was preceded in death by his parents, first wife, Janet (1996), one granddaughter, Jamie Prince, one brother, Melvin Meyer, four sisters, Leona Abbas, Wilma Fredericks, Idella Holland and Donna Mae Eid.
