OMAHA, Neb. - Janet (Uker) Smith, 65, of Omaha, Neb., formerly of Rudd and Nora Springs, died Sept. 21, 2008, at the Omaha University Hospital in Omaha. She died of a heart attack caused by a severe fall. Janet was born Oct. 14, 1942, at Rudd, to Earl and Viola Uker. She graduated from Nora Springs High School and then moved to Omaha where she resided ever since. Due to her wishes, she was cremated. Janet is survived by her daughter, Debbie Smith, of Austin, Texas; her son, Jerry (Susan) Smith, of Weeping Water, Neb.; and three grandchildren, Ryan, Zack and Amanda; her mother, Viola Townsend, of Belmond; halfsister, Carole Steenblock, of Belmond; half-brother, Danny Uker, of Osage; sister-in-law, Karen Uker, of Charles City; uncle, Nolan Townsend, of Charles City; aunt, Iva Gruver, of Spirit Lake; and nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her father, her brother, Don Uker, of Charles City, her stepfather, Merlyn Townsend, of Belmond, grandparents, aunts and uncles. Arrangements were handled by Westlawn Hillcrest Funeral Home in Omaha, Neb.
