Fort Dodge Messenger, IowaEAGLE GROVE - Betty Lou Knight, the daughter of Jay and Maude (Kelling) Knight, was born May 28, 1930, in Goldfield, Iowa. She attended Thrall Country School. Betty enjoyed helping her mother in her flower garden. She moved to Pocahontas and later to Emmetsburg after her mother passed away. Betty participated in Special Olympics and was extremely happy when she won a gold medal. She enjoyed working at "Horizons" part time. She also attended classes at Emmetsburg College. Her least favorite class was math, but she enjoyed helping in the kitchen at the college. Betty Lou loved her nieces and nephews and kept up what was happening in their lives. Betty's hobbies were ceramics and she truly enjoyed giving them away. She also enjoyed playing bingo, watching baseball, the Iowa Hawkeyes and she loved popcorn. Betty always looked forward to going to Spencer to KFC, trips to the Dairy Queen and going to the farm for harvest in the fall.
Betty Lou passed away Sunday, September 28, 2008, at the Kathleen's Care Incorporated Care Facility at the age of 78 years. She was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Elizabeth Grandgeorge, Lucile Kvale, Ione Lewis and three brothers, Richard Knight, Kenneth Knight, and Lynn Knight. Betty is survived by her brother, James (Pete) L. Knight and wife Mildred of Clarion; sisters in law, Frances Knight of Eagle Grove, Fern Shultz of Clarion and brother in law, Eugene Lewis and wife Phyllis of Clarion, many nieces and nephews, and her Emmetsburg family.
Memorial Services will be Monday, October 6, 2008, at the United Presbyterian Church in Goldfield at 10:30 a.m. with Pastor Joyce Garton-Natte officiating. Private family burial will be held at Glenwood Cemetery. Memorials may be left to the Wright Medical Foundation, 1316 South Main Street; Clarion, Iowa 50525, or United Presbyterian Church of Goldfield.
