LUVERNE - Edwin Howard Hunt, 70, of rural LuVerne, died on Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) at his home in rural LuVerne. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the United Methodist Church in Renwick, with the Rev. Karen Dearchs officiating. Interment will be in LuVerne Cemetery, with military rites conducted by the Elmer Wilson American Legion Post #229 of Corwith.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral home in Algona.Edwin Howard Hunt was born on Sept. 22, 1932, to Marie Caroline Nielsen Hunt and Howard Edwin Hunt in Corwith, Iowa. He lived his young years with his mother and maternal grandparents. Edwin attended country school and finished his high school years at LuVerne. After graduation, he worked on the railroad until he entered the U.S. Army for two years, 18 months of which he served in Korea. After being discharged from the Army, Edwin worked on road construction and was very proud of his skill operating heavy equipment.
Edwin was married to Joann Krause on Jan. 25, 1958, and began farming in March of 1959, first in LuVerne, then near Kanawha, and the last 39 years in LuVerne. Edwin was a member of the Renwick United Methodist Church and also belonged to the Elmer Wilson American Legion Post #229 in Corwith. Edwin was very proud of his children and grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with them.
He lost his 7 l/2 year battle with cancer on Jan. 9, 2003, at 7:30 p.m. at his home near LuVerne, with his entire family around him. Edwin is survived by his wife, Joann, of LuVerne; and his children and grandchildren, Brian Francis Hunt and wife, Deb, and their children, Amber and Aaron; Terri Jo Koch and husband Ted, and their children, Sabrina Hunt and Lucas Gunderson, of Milford, Iowa; and Howard Scott Hunt and wife, Jolene, and their children, Andrew and Heather. Also surviving are three step-grandchildren; and four step-great-grandchildren. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and parents-in-law.
