LIVERMORE, IA - Robert J. Foley, 83, of Livermore died Monday at Humboldt County Memorial Hospital. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at the United Methodist Church of Livermore, with the Rev. David Weesner, associate pastor of Faith United Methodist Church in Humboldt, officiatiing. Burial will be in Vernon Township Cemetery near Hardy. Visitation is after 4 p.m. today at the Wilson Funeral Home, Livermore. Survivors include his wife, Iola; daughters, Muriel Dixon and Roberta Gales, both of Pasadena, Texas; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Robert J. Foley was born March 10, 1908 in Renwick. He attended school in Hardy and Vernon Consolidated School of Vernon Township in Humboldt County. In 1933 he married Iola Lee Underberg in Northwood. They farmed in Vernon Township and then in Wacousta Township, both in Humboldt County, before moving to Oklahoma for a year. They returned to Iowa and he worked for the Humboldt County Soil Conservation for three years before returning to farming in Wacousta Township. He retired in 1970 and moved into Livermore.

He was preceded in death by his parents, daughter, Loana Woollums, two grandchildren, brother, Charles, and sister, Ida Whiting.

LIVERMORE - Funeral service for Robert J. Foley, 83, will be held at 10:30 a.m. today (Thursday) in the United Methodist Church at Livermore. The Rev. David Weesner, associate Pastor of Faith Methodist Church, Humboldt will officiate and burial is in the Vernon Township Cemetery. Members of the Hospice of Humboldt are honorary bearers for Mr. Foley. Active bearers are Dan Underberg, Eric Underberg, Dean Underberg, Tom Benge, Dick Balk and Gene Madsen. The Wilson Funeral Home of Livermore is in charge of the arrangements.

Robert J. Foley, son of Edwin and Mary Urion Foley, was born March 10, 1908 at Renwick. He attended school at Hardy, then Vernon Consolidated School in Vernon Township. Robert was married to Iola Lee Underberg at Northwood, IA on Dec. 30, 1933. The Foleys farmed in Vernon Township, then in Wacousta Township before moving of Oklahoma where they lived for one year. They returned to Iowa, and Robert worked for the Humboldt County Soil Conservation three years before he went back to farming in Wacousta Township. He retired in 1970 and they moved into Livermore. Mr. Foley died Monday, Jan. 20 (1992) in the Humboldt County Memorial Hospital at Humboldt.

Surviving is his wife, Iola and two daughters, Muriel Dixon and Robert, Mrs. James Gales, both of Pasadena, TX. There are five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a daughter and son-in-law, William and Loana Woollums; two grandchildren, Jody Woollums and Douglas Gales, his parents, a brother, Charles and sister, Ida Whiting.
