1918 - 2006

Funeral for Ed Stupka, 87, of Bridgeport, Texas was to be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 7, at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Fort Bend, Iowa. Burial was to follow at Newark Township Cemetery in Vincent, Iowa. Stupka died Friday, Dec. 30, 2005, in Bridgeport. Born Jan. 31, 1918, in Humboldt, Iowa, to Albert Martin and Helen Johnson Stupka he attended elementary school in Humboldt, high school in Renwick, Iowa, and the School of Commerce in Mason City, Iowa. Stupka married Ann Hofmann of Vincent, Iowa, June 11, 1943, at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Waukegan, Ill. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years and earned the rank of Chief Yeoman. He worked in accounting and insurance. He belonged to the AmerUs Life Insurance Company for 40 years and was president from 1970 to 1971. He was also a past president of the Sertoma Club and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 1856 for 37 years. He was a fourth degree knight of the Knights of Columbus. He also sold raffle tickets each autumn to benefit the Marion Horne Auxiliary.

He was preceded in death by his wife; two brothers, George Stupka and Lawrence Stupka; a twin sister, Edna Vought; and a sister, Alice Fulks. He is survived by two daughters, Patty Mitchell and husband, Carl, of Wake Forest, N.C., and Paulette Dodd and husband, Robert, of Decatur; five grandchildren, Karen Schneider and husband, Kevin, of Baton Rouge, La., Amy Williams and husband, Tim, of Midlothian, Va., Sara Ray and husband, Donnie, of Wake Forest, Mick Villers of Sanger, and Michelle Villers of North Richland Hills; five great-grandchildren, Nick and Andrew Williams of Midlothian, Va., Alan and Danny Schneider of Baton Rouge, and Matt Ray of Wake Forest; and a sister, Helen Stroud of Belmond, Iowa.

The family requests memorials be made to the Fort Dodge Catholic School System or to a charity of choice.
