Anna Janet Tjelle was born on September 17, 1910, at Sully, Iowa to Garret and Bertha Crum Wisgerhof. She graduated from the Sully High School. Ann attended Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa and earned her Teaching Certificate. Over the years, Ann continued her schooling through Drake University to renew her Teaching Certificate. Ann taught 4 years at Sully and then taught 4 years at Goldfield, Iowa. Ann was married to Ole Tjelle on March 21, 1940, in Sully, Iowa. The couple farmed in the Renwick and Goldfield area. During this time, Ann was a substitute teacher. After her family was raised, Ann returned to teaching full time. She taught in the Boone Valley School System until her retirement in 1973. Ann’s husband, Ole preceded her in death on December 9, 1983. Ann was an active member of the Lake Lutheran Church for 65 years. She also belonged to various women’s clubs in the Renwick area. She enjoyed quilting, reading, traveling and working on crafts. Ann moved to her son’s home in Holt, Missouri in 2000. In 2003, she became a resident of the Gower Convalescent Home in Gower, Missouri. Ann died there on Sunday, October 2, 2005, at the age of 95.

Ann is survived by her son, Jerry Tjelle and wife, Merlyn, Holt, Missouri and her daughter-in-law, Nana Tjelle, Renwick, Iowa. Also surviving are 4 grandchildren, 5 step grandchildren, 10 step grandchildren, 2 sisters, Erma Bailey, Newton, Iowa, Lorene Smith, Denver, Colorado and 1 brother, Max Wisgerhof, Galesburg, Illinois. Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Ole, her son, Tom and 10 brothers and sisters, Alze, Guy, Cody, Karl, Carol, Reva, Ollie, Howard, Earl and Nelle.
