Genevieve M. Granner, the daughter of Albert and Cora (Houck) Kitley, was born near Vincent, Iowa on June 11, 1910. When she was a young child the family moved by horse and wagon to a farm near Hardy, Iowa. Genevieve graduated from Renwick High School, where she first met Harold Granner, whose father was a preacher in Renwick. Genevieve attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) for two years and was awarded a teaching certificate. She taught hundreds of elementary students, first in rural Webster County, then at Gilmore City, Cedar Valley, Rockwell City, and Bradgate. She was a devoted teacher and had a special place in her heart for all her students.

Harold and Genevieve were married in Hardy on June 1, 1934 and started their life together in Ledyard where Harold was a teacher, then school superintendent. They moved to Gilmore City in 1942 where Harold was school superintendent for 15 years, except for one year in Des Moines. In 1964 they moved to Humboldt. Except for a couple of years in Friendship Haven, Genevieve has lived in Humboldt ever since. Genevieve has been a member of the Faith United Methodist Church since 1964. She also enjoyed her membership in P.E.O. and spent happy hours with her friends in the china-painting group. It was always a pleasure for her to attended high school class reunions with Harold, especially when these involved her former students.

Genevieve Granner died late in the afternoon of November 11, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harold; parents, Albert and Cora; sisters, Gladys and Mabel; and brothers, Loren, Lyle, and Dale. She is survived by her sons, Daryl (Nancy) of North Liberty, Doug of Iowa City, and Steven (Bonnie) of Indianapolis; four grandchildren, Mark (Stacy) of Iowa City, Nikki (Kevin) Johnson of San Francisco, Ryan of Chicago, and Cara of Indianapolis; and four great grandchildren, Alex and Katie of Iowa City and Adeline and Nate of San Francisco.
