July 23, 1996FORT WORTH - Harold C. "Squarehead" Helmke, 82, a retired postal worker and owner of J&H Kiln and Ceramic, died Friday in Fort Worth. Funeral: 1:30 p.m. today at Moore Funeral Home. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens. Memorials: Vitas Hospice and American Lung Association.
Mr. Helmke was born April 12, 1914, in Renwick, Iowa, and came to Fort Worth in 1926. He graduated from Central High in 1934 and married Josephine Mouer in 1935. He started working for Mrs Baird's Bakeries in 1935 and started subbing at the post office in 1936 and went full time in 1937. He retired in 1971. Mr. Helmke started J&H Kiln Co. in 1963 and J&H Ceramic in 1967. He was a member of Postal Union 226 and Southwest Rabbit Breeders Association. He was a Trinity Baptist Boy Scouts Scout Master and a member of Ceramic Art Guild and River Oaks Baptist Church.
Survivors: Wife, Josephine "Jody;" son, Thomas C. Helmke of Livingston; daughters, Carlene Shibley of Houston, Judy Hubbard and Roxann Mays, both of Fort Worth; nine grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. Moore Funeral Home.
