Harry Hall dies at 55 years, services Monday

Harry Hall, 55, clerk in the local state liquor store, died last Thursday evening at his home of a sudden and wholly unexpected heart attack. He had made Belmond his home the past 16 years. Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at the Congregational Church, Rev. J. Samuel Shelby officiating and Johnston Funeral Home in charge. Burial was in the Belmond Cemetery. Pallbearers were Henry Arends, Orville Arends, Lowell Hoke, Harold Huse, Haydn Jones and Sid Swenson, Jr.

Born Oct. 19, 1909 in Hardin Co., Harry Lyle Hall was the son of Lyle and Jewel Simpson Hall. He attended elementary school and later the night school at Alexander. On March 14, 1936, he was married to Lois Steffens at Plattsburgh, MO. They farmed for 13 years in the Alexander - Belmond area before moving to this community in 1949. Mr. Hall was employed for a time by Rowat - Murry Engineers and also worked for Downs Texaco Service before his employment by the state liquor commission three years ago.

In addition to his widow, he leaves three children: Harry B. Hall, serving with the U.S. Air Force in Vermont; David Hall, Little Rock, AK and Mrs. Mary Ann Kuhlman, Cedar Falls; also four grandchildren. Also surviving are two step-sons; Verle Crafton of Rowan and Donald Crafton, in the U.S. Army and stationed at San Antonio, TX; one brother, George Hall; and two sisters, Mrs. Imo Ripple of New Hampton and Mrs. Margaret Hanson of Alexander. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, who died in childhood.
