OSAGE, IA - Winifred H. Pritchard, 94, of Osage, died Wednesday (Aug. 20, 2008) at the Faith Home in Osage. Winnie was born Aug. 14, 1914, in Raymond, S.D., the daughter of Bill and Bess (Hoyt) Hampel. The family moved back to Iowa in 1915 and settled on a farm near Garner. She graduated from Garner High School. Winnie was united in marriage to Robert "Bob" Pritchard on Oct. 10, 1938, in Garner. The next 13 years were spent farming in the Belmond, Britt and Clear Lake area. In 1950, they moved to Roberts, Wis., where they farmed and then ran a resort, hotel and tavern in Solon Springs, Wis. They returned to Iowa in January of 1961 as owners of the Coast to Coast Store in Osage. Winnie has been a member of the Osage Wa Tan Ye Club since 1961. She was a member of the Osage V.F.W. Auxiliary and served as chairman of the American Legion Auxiliary, and was elected the first woman chairman of the Osage Chamber of Commerce. Winnie served as chairman of the Elderbridge Agency from 1985 to 1988, and was active in many other community groups and organizations.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 25, 2008, at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Osage, with the Rev. John Moser officiating. Burial will be at Sacred Heart Cemetery in Osage. Visitation is from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home in Osage with a rosary at 5 p.m.

Winnie is survived by her son, Michael (Pat) Pritchard, of Osage; her daughter, Linda (Jerry) Woolm, of Northwood; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; one sister, Shirley Heuberger, of Reno, Nev.; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Robert Pritchard; two brothers, Earl Hampel and Arnold Hampel; and three sisters, Dorothy Foster, Mildred Ax and Beverly Hyde.
