Services for Gladys M. Wessels, 80, of St. Charles, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, at Baker United Methodist Church in St. Charles. Rev. Dr. C. Alfred Patten will officiate.

Born May 14, 1917, in Meservey, Iowa to Simon and Reaka Fischer, Mrs. Wessels died Tuesday, Dec. 23, 1997, at Delnor Community Hospital, Geneva. Burial will be in Union Cemetery, St. Charles. She was a member of Baker Memorial United Methodist Church of St. Charles, a lifetime member and past president of the American Legion Women's Auxiliary Post #342, and past president of the Kane County Women's Auxiliary.

Survivors include her sons, Dean (Kathy) of Mount Prospect and Merlin (Cheryl) of Sycamore; her daughters, Vera (Darryl) Janikowski of Novato, Cal., Avis (Charles) Lind of Winnebago, Ill., Rita (Dennis) McInerney of Chicago and Sandra (Pat) Sheehan of Berwyn; her brother, Dale (Phyllis) Fischer of Thornton, Iowa; ten grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 1978; two sons, LeRoy and Douglas; and a daughter, Marian.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, at Yurs Funeral Home, St. Charles. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
