Jack Gary Dunton, 65, died October 28, 2003 at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines of sudden heart failure. Funeral services will be held at the Christ's Church at Fox Creek Center of Waukee, Iowa on Friday October 31, 2003 at 10 a.m. with burial at 2:30 p.m. at the Meservey, Iowa Cemetery. Gary retired from NCR after 34 years of service. He was a navy veteran and a member of the Crossroad Evangelical Free Church of Earlham, Iowa. Gary is survived by his wife, Melva of Dexter, mother, Dorothy Dunton of Naples, FL, daughter, Julie Richards and husband, Joe of Waukee son, Jon Dunton and wife, Shelley of Van Meter son, Jason Dunton and wife, Megan of Grimes sister, Deanna Darr and husband, Marlin of Johnston six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials to be directed to the Crossroad Evangelical Free Building Fund or Gideons International. Visitation will be held at the Kuhn Funeral Home in Dexter on Thursday from 2 to 8 p.m. where the family will greet friends from 6 to 8 p.m.

Jack Gary Dunton was born the son of Keith and Dorothy Dunton in Mason City, Iowa on February 7, 1938, and died of sudden heart failure at Mercy Medical Center on October 28, 2003, at the age of 65. After graduating from Meservey High School, Gary entered the US Navy in 1957. Before entering the US Navy, Gary married Melva Kuhlers on January 18, 1957 in Meservey, Iowa. Gary and Melva were blessed with 3 children; Julie, Jon, and Jason. After being discharged from the Navy, Gary and Melva moved to the Des Moines area where Gary was employed with NCR for 34 years before retirement in 1998. Gary and Melva made their home in Dexter at Diamondhead Lake in 1996, where Gary spent his retirement attending his grandchildren’s sports and musical events, volunteering with Gideons International, lay speaking, traveling with his wife, and golfing. Gary attended Crossroad Evangelical Free Church, where he was a deacon. He enjoyed mentoring and was known for his gentle spirit.

His father, Keith Dunton, preceded Gary in death. Gary leaves the following family to celebrate his life; wife, Melva of Dexter; mother, Dorothy Dunton of Naples, FL; daughter, Julie Richards and husband Joe of Waukee; son, Jon Dunton and wife Shelley of Van Meter; son, Jason Dunton and wife Megan of Grimes; sister, Deanna Darr and husband Marlin of Johnston; six grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.
