Marvin Albert Nissen, 91, of Fort Collins, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at the Columbine Care Center West after a short struggle with pneumonia. Marvin Nissen was born on Feb. 23, 1913, to Albert J. Nissen and Anna Hulsebus Nissen in Meservey, Iowa. He went to grade school and high school in Meservey and obtained a technical education in radio engineering at the RCA Institute in Chicago. After serving in the Navy as a chief petty officer in electronics, he worked for the Federal Aviation Administration for 30 years, retiring in 1977. On Dec. 24, 1941, he married Maxine Davis, a registered nurse. Marvin and Maxine moved to Fort Collins in 1997 to be closer to their son, Scott, a professor at Colorado State University. Previously, they lived in Kerrville, Texas, for 18 years after retirement. Marvin was active in amateur radio for more than 70 years, having served in many capacities in California, Iowa, Illinois and Texas. He served on many church boards in the United Methodist Church. Marvin and Maxine had 13 happy years traveling in their recreational vehicle.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Marjorie Nissen Perrin; and an infant sister, Mavis. Marvin is survived by his wife, Maxine; three sons, Phillip and his wife, Ruth, of Earlville, Md., Mark and his wife, Mary Jo, of Edina, Minn., and Scott, of Fort Collins; five grandchildren, Hilary, Joanna, Annie, Will and Julia; a sister-in-law, Lydia Watts, of Des Moines, Iowa; and a brother-in-law, Ersell Perrin, of Prescott, Ariz.

A memorial service will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road. The Rev. Don Bird will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to First United Methodist Church, in care of Allnutt Funeral Service, 650 W. Drake Road, Fort Collins, CO 80526.
