May 7, 1999KANAWHA - Cecil Fredrick Graeber, 90, passed away Wednesday (May 5, 1999) at Belmond Community Hospital in Belmond. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 8, at Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, Kanawha, with Kanawha American Legion Post Chaplain William Dahl officiating. Burial will be in Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Kanawha. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Kanawha American Legion. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today at Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, Kanawha, and will resume one hour prior to services Saturday.
Cecil, the son of Fredrick Wilson and Alice Gertrude Long Graeber, was born Feb. 15, 1909, in Kentland, Ind. He attended Kanawha schools and graduated from Kanawha High School. After high school, Cecil moved to Illinois, where he attended trade school on tool and dye making. Cecil worked for Wyman and Gordon in Harvey, Ill., for a time. In 1943 Cecil entered the Navy and served his country in the South Pacific during World War II. His service to his country was very important to him. Following his discharge, he returned to Harvey, Ill., and worked for Wyman and Gordon. He later lived for a time in Homewood, Ill. Cecil returned to Kanawha following his retirement at age 65. Cecil loved to bowl, play cards and go fishing. He was a member of the Kanawha American Legion Severson Post No. 77.
Cecil is survived by one son, James, of Cook, Minn.; one granddaughter, Jade and Scott Hansen of Wausau, Wis.; four great-grandchildren, Aaron, Tyler, Nicholas and Alex; special friends, Barbara Ansel and her husband, Ray, of Kanawha; and numerous other friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters.
