Mason City Globe GazetteMESERVEY - Funeral services for Louis Dean Dirks Jr., 58, of Meservey will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday at the First Reformed Church in Meservey, with the Rev. Rodney Meester officiating. Interment will be in the Meservey Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home in Meservey.
Louis Dean Dirks Jr. was born on Oct. 23, 1941, in Meservey, to Louis Dirks and Tena Boelman. Louis was schooled and graduated from Thornton High School. Following graduation, he began working for Chicago Great Western Railroad, later becoming Chicago Northwestern Railroad. He worked for them for 31 years, living in several communities in Iowa before moving to Meservey in 1994. On Jan. 28, 1962, Louis married Barbara Kerdus in Mason City. Louis was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, was a NASCAR fan, enjoyed fishing, golfing and bird watching as well as spending time with his grandchildren.
Louis died at his home in Meservey on Monday (Feb. 14, 2000) at the age of 58. Survivors include his children, Brian Dirks and wife, Tanya, of Storm Lake, Brenda Snyder and husband, Scott, of Fairmont, Minn., and Eric Dirks and wife, Angie, of Storm Lake; four grandchildren, Melinda and Luke Snyder and Damien and Dallas Dirks. Also surviving is Louis' mother, Tena Dirks, of Sheffield; brothers and sisters, Doris Dirks, of Thornton, Ronald and wife, Judy, of Forest City, Karen Ude and husband, Frank, of Thornton, Jim and wife, Nancy, of Ankeny, and John and wife, Cindy, of Mason City. Louis was preceded in death by his father; and two brothers, Robert and Jerry. Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf-Grarup Funeral Home.
