Willard Holmes Fessenden, 66, of Hayward, Calif., formerly of Kanawha and Mason City, Iowa, died Monday, Sept. 5, 1994, at his home. Per his wishes, no services were held. Willard Fessenden was born Oct. 11, 1927, in Mason City, the son of Edward and Ruth Fessenden. He was owner of the Kanawha Reporter at one time in Kanawha, and worked for the Oakland Tribune, Oakland, Calif., until he retired.

Survivors include two daughters, Deloris Strong of South San Francisco, Calif., and Katherine Van Ee of Forestville, Calif.; two step-daughters, Sally Gibson of Daly City, Calif., and Phyllis Lander of Nipomo, Calif.; one son, Merlin Fessenden of Santa Rosa, Calif.; seven grandchildren, Edward Walton, Kelly Walton, Leah Schianterelli, Michael van Ee, Robert van Ee, Shannon van Ee, Robert van Ee, Shannon van Ee and Jessica van Ee; two great-grandchildren, Ashley Schiantarelli and Vincent Schiantarelli; one sister, (Mrs. Gordon) Corinne Brierly of Nora Springs. He was preceded in death by his parents, Edward and Ruth Fessenden; and an infant son.
