December 1997Mr. Merlin W. Brinkman, 64, of Ventura, Iowa, died Friday, Dec. 5, 1997. Memorial services were held Monday, Dec. 8, 1997 at the Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura, with the Rev. David Gobeli officiating. Memorials may be given to the Merlin W. Brinkman memorial fund. Ward-Van Slyke Colonial Chapel, Clear Lake, was in charge of services.
Merlin was born August 29, 1933 in Klemme, Iowa, the son of Martin and Meta (Baack) Brinkman. He graduated from Klemme High School. Following high school he served in the Army from 1953-1955. After the service he moved back to Klemme and attended Hamilton College and earned a degree in accounting. He worked for Dewey Electric as an accountant. Merlin married Ina VanBuskirk June 15, 1963 in Goodell, Iowa. He was in the banking business in the area for over 30 years. Merlin was a member of Ventura United Methodist Church, Ventura.
Merlin is survived by his wife, Ina Brinkman, Ventura; two sons, Jeff Brinkman and his wife, Tricia, Portage, Mich. and Dan Brinkman, at Iowa State University, Ames, Iowa; and one grandson, Lane Brinkman; three brothers, Garland Brinkman and his wife, Karna, Garner, Iowa, Ronald Brinkman and his wife, Alice, Klemme, and Martin Brinkman Jr. and his wife, Lois, Sheffield, Iowa and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Leo. Organist was Dorothy Schnuelle.
