Paul Henry Brooks, son of Henry Leighty (H.L.) and Sarah Evalyn Brooks, was born December 2, 1918 near Dows, Iowa, and passed away June 9, 2008 at the Dallas County Hospital, Perry, Iowa at the age of 89 Years, 6 Months, and 7 Days. At age 3 months he moved with his parents to a farm near Iowa City. He began school at North Liberty. In the spring of 1929, the family moved to a farm near Dexter, Iowa. Paul finished grade school at Union Twp #5 after which he attended and graduated from Dexter High School in 1936. While living at Dexter, he united with the First Presbyterian Church. He was active in and enjoyed 4-H work. After graduation he engaged in farming with his parents on farms southwest of Perry. On September 21, 1947, Paul was united in marriage to Dorothy Nourse at Washington Chapel. To this union were born two daughters. Paul and Dorothy enjoyed and continued farming south of Dawson until 1961 when they moved to Perry. Paul worked for Bower Construction and later for Perry Community Schools from which he retired in 1980. He worked part time for Harland’s Hardware for 8 years. Paul was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church in Perry where he served as elder and deacon. In retirement, he and Dorothy enjoyed traveling and numerous volunteer activities. In 2007, they celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary.

Paul was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; two brothers, Clyde and Gale; sister, Eleanor; and son-in-law, Stan Weiser. He is survived by two daughters, Linda (Arnie) Ybarra of Waukee, and Cynthia (Joseph) Pietras of Perry; other relatives and friends.
