Roger Eugene Newton, 76, of Indianapolis, passed away Monday, June 30, 2008. He was born in Thor, IA on August 2, 1931, the son of the late Lester A. and Genevive (Lenning) Newton. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War. Upon his discharge from the military he attended and graduated from the University of Iowa Medical School. He then completed his obstetric/gynecology residency at the University of Chicago in 1964. He had a private practice for two years before entering into the field of Clinical Research. He directed the research and development of new drugs, such as Buspar and Trazedone, while employed at Mead Johnson, Bristol Myers, and Angelini Pharmaceuticals. He retired in 1996.
Roger is survived by his wife, Mary K. (Miner) Newton, three daughters, Lisa (Louis) Winternheimer, Lynn (Larry) Bruner, Traci (Nicholas) Taylor; and ten grandchildren. Visitation will be Wednesday, July 2 from 5 to 8 p.m. at Zionsville Fellowship Church, 9090 E. SR 334, Zionsville, IN, where he was a member. A Celebration of Life will be held at Zionsville Fellowship Church, at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Neighborhood Fellowship, 3102 E. 10th St, Indianapolis, IN 46201.
