BRITT — Della Pommer, 87, of Britt passed away on Monday (May 21, 2007) at The Westview Care Center in Britt. Funeral services for Della Pommer will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 25, at the Britt Christian Reformed Church with Pastor Joel DeBoer officiating. Burial will be at the Evergreen Cemetery in Britt. Visitation will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Chapel, 178 Center St. W. in Britt, and continue one hour prior to services at the church.

Della, the daughter of Peter and Grace Luppen Smidt, was born on Dec. 28, 1919, on a farm near Kanawha. She received her education in the Wesley school district. She was baptized and made public profession of faith at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church in 1935. Della was united in marriage to Harold Pommer on Dec. 15, 1938, at Della’s Grandpa Luppen’s home north of Kanawha. They made their first home on a farm southwest of Woden and later moved to a farm south of Woden. After retirement they moved to Britt. She was a member of the Woden Christian Reformed Church and transferred her membership to the Britt Christian Reformed Church after moving to Britt.

In her retirement years she and her husband, Harold, enjoyed traveling and visiting with their children and grandchildren. She was an active member of the Britt Senior Citizens for many years. Della enjoyed gardening, flowers, crocheting, embroidery work, and sewing, which included making many quilts.

She is survived by her two daughters, Arlis and husband, Norman Ruter, of Denver, Colo., and Beverly and husband, Robert Twistol, of Orlando, Fla.; three grandsons, Greg and wife, Dana, Randy and wife, Sarah, and Scott and wife, Amy; two granddaughters, Sara and husband, Kyle, Christy and husband, Maro; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Grace and husband, Albertus Kruger; four sisters-in-law, Bertha Smidt, Gladys Smidt, Hannah Mae Meyer, and Winifred Pommer; step-sister, Johnette Kayle; and many nephews and nieces. Della was preceded in death by her parents, Peter and Grace Smidt; husband, Harold; and two brothers, George P. and Peter Smidt.
