Mason City Globe Gazette, IAKANAWHA - Jennie Irene Eekhoff, 91, died Thursday (Nov. 1, 2001) at Westview Care Center in Britt. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church in Kanawha with Pastor G. David Daley officiating. Burial will be at Amsterdam Township Cemetery, Kanawha. Visitation will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. on Sunday at the Ewing Dugger Funeral Home in Kanawha and will continue one hour prior to services at the church.
Jennie, the daughter of Albert and Eva Borchers Nieman, was born Aug. 8, 1910, on the family farm near Kanawha. She received her formal education in the Amsterdam Township country school. Jennie was united in marriage with John Eekhoff on Feb. 22, 1933, at the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church parsonage. The couple farmed in the areas of Kanawha and Britt until retiring in 1974. Later that same year, they purchased a home and moved into Kanawha. John passed away on Dec. 23, 1983. Jennie continued to reside in her home in Kanawha until March of 2000 when she became a resident of Westview Care Center in Britt, following a fall. Her family was a great joy to her and she loved helping care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting and helping with Kanawha congregate meals. She was a member of the Kanawha Christian Reformed Church and the Ladies Aid Society.
Jennie is survived by her children, John and his wife, Thelma, of Kanawha, Albert and his wife, Roberta, of Nevada, Naomi Erickson and her husband, Kenneth, of Washington, and Don and his wife, Barb, of Britt; 13 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Martin Nieman and his wife, Joyce, of Britt; one sister-in-law, June Nieman of Britt; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, John; one daughter, Jeanine; one grandson, Albert Eekhoff Jr.; two sisters, Tena and Grace; and three brothers, Casper, Ed and John. Ewing Funeral Home.
